Alexander Koester
- Stages of his life -

Alexander Koester was born as the second son of the couple, Bernard and Emilie, born Hollmann, on 10 February 1864 in Mountain Neustadt district Gummersbach.

At his father's request, Alexander Koester joined in 1882 at Colmar Wintzenheim his training as a pharmacist and put his degree as a pharmacy assistant in 1885.

By the end of 1885 for him a heart's desire came true - he was accepted at the famous school of painting of the Grand Ducal Baden Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe.

In 1896 he moved to Klausen / Southern Tyrol. This place in the Isarco Valley has had a lasting influence on him and his entire life's work. At the beginning of the First World War he moved to Munich. Later he moved his studio and his second residence to Dießen on lake Ammer. Alexander Koester died in Munich in 1932.
